Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Silverado are recognized as the most outstanding vehicles for 2007. The 2007 North American Car and Truck of the Year awards were handed out at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 7 2007 at 9:30 a.m. The NACOTY/NATOTY awards recognize vehicles for their innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. To be eligible for the 2007 award, the vehicles must be âall newâ or âsubstantially changedâ from previous models. Dozens of 2007 vehicles qualified but journalists whittled the field down to 11 cars and 15 trucks, and in December the top three finalists in each category were named: Honda Fit, Saturn Aura and Toyota Camry for car and Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Edge and Mazda CX-7 for truck. The North American Car and Truck of the Year awards are unique because theyâre not given out by a single publication, radio, TV station or the auto show itself. The NACOTY/NATOTY group is made up of 49 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. In the last 13 years, domestic automakers have won the North American Car of the Year award six times. Japanese makes have won three and European automakers four times. For trucks⦠domestics have won eight times, Japanese automakers have won three times and European automakers have won twice.
